The "Grade" Scam
Fabric grades (A, B, C...) are pricing tiers, not necessarily quality tiers.
- Base Grade (A): usually a simple polyester or cotton blend. 100% adequate for most.
- Performance Upgrades: Retailers know you want "stain resistance" (Crypton/Sunbrella), so they mark these up the most—often 300-500%.
- The Yardage Math: A generic sofa takes ~15 yards. If the material costs $10 more per yard, the actual cost increase is $150. If they charge you $600 upgrade fee, that's pure profit.
